While a huge draw for Direct TV’s fifteen and a half million subscribers is the massive amount of quality television programming provided by its hundreds of channels, the great television technology that’s provided with every subscription goes a long way toward keeping those subscribers happy and satisfied.

All of Direct TV’s programming starts out at transmission stations where if it isn’t already in digital television format, it’s converted into digital television format. Then all of the programming is encrypted to prevent people who don’t subscribe to Direct TV’s service from stealing it. Once the programming has been converted and encrypted, it’s compressed using either MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 data compression technologies and transmitted up to a fleet of satellites in geosynchronous orbit above the Earth’s equator. Those satellites then send all of the programming back down to the Earth’s surface where satellite dishes all over North America can pick it up. Those satellite dishes then send the programming to Direct TV’s satellite receivers which decompress it, decrypt it, cleanse it of interference, and make it available to display on television screens in a high quality picture that can’t be matched by an old fashioned analog television signal that just travels across town.

Along with great programming and a great picture, Direct TV also provides interactive features with all subscriptions. These interactive features include things that will help make hundreds of channels manageable and enhance the enjoyment of the satellite TV experience. The central feature to all of this is the on screen program guide. The on screen program guide provides interactive listings of every program on every channel available from Direct TV. Each listing includes the year the program was made, who stars in it, what it’s rated (if applicable), and often comes with a brief summary of the plot. Scrolling through the on screen program guide is a much more efficient way to decide what to watch than surfing through the channels would be, and can even tell you what’s available to watch in the future.

Another valuable interactive feature that’s included on all of its subscriptions is Parental Control capability. Parental Controls allow you to block inappropriate programming from being accessed by your children. You make the rules for what they can and can’t watch based on MPAA ratings, channel, time of day, or even specific TV show. You can also set spending limits on Pay Per View programming. Best of all, you can still watch what you want with the use of your own personal identification number.

Direct TV subscribers can also enjoy access to optional technology. Digital Video Recording is a very popular example of what you can get through Direct TV. With a Digital Video Recorder you can record up to two hundred hours of the TV shows and movies that you want to watch again and again or the programming that you have to see, but can’t be at home to watch when it first airs. A Digital Video Recorder is easy to program with the intuitive software supplied by Direct TV and because all of the video is stored on a built in hard disk, you won’t have to worry about finding blank video tapes. Plus, because the video is recorded in all digital television format, you’ll enjoy the same great high quality picture and sound that you would if you were watching the program directly off of the satellite signal.

With all of this great technology, you can’t go wrong with Direct TV.

Having recently watched the Discovery Channel’s Planet Earth series at a friend’s house in high definition, I was sold on the difference between HD and the normal service that I had been using. With my old Sony TV not being HD compatible, I upgraded to a Samsung Plasma, and then began to consider whether I was going to go for satellite TV, or upgrade my cable service to HD. I generally watch a lot of sports, and definitely wanted NFL Sunday Ticket, as well as Discovery, but was otherwise open to either. Here’s what I found out:1) Sports Programming – Apparently Sunday Ticket is only available on satellite TV, which will be a big deal for football fans, however, there is an alternative NFL package available on cable. The alternative football package will switch to NFL games when one team reaches the red zone, but it appears obvious you can only view every regular season game in its entirety on satellite TV. This is important if you’re following a team based in a different city from where you live. MLB Extra Innings and local sports channels appear to be essentially the same between the two, and basketball coverage appears slightly better on satellite due to the inclusion of Mega March Madness for the NCAA Tournament, with both carrying NBA League Pass. 2) Movie Channels – Both carry a mountain of movie channels, and it appears that the lineups are essentially the same. Cable and satellite TV also carry pay-per-view offerings, which also appear to be roughly the same.3) HD Channels – It appears that based on my cable options, on the west coast, that satellite TV has more channels available in high definition, but that cable has more programs in HD. Rather complicated, although, at the end of the day, it appears that like the pricing question, this could go either way, depending on which channels you want or need. This may also depend on where in the country you are located.4) Price – This was tricky, because of the packages that the two types of TV like to market specific channels within. Cable looks cheaper at first glance, but to get the best rate, you need to bundle service with internet, phone, etc. At the end of the day, I’m looking for HBO, NFL Sunday Ticket or something like it, Discovery, and the basics like CNN, ESPN, etc. It appears as though if you’re willing to commit to cable service with internet and phone, then cable may be slightly cheaper, but for me, I think that satellite TV was the cheaper option, as I do not have a landline, therefore am not eligible for the better rates that cable offers. All in all, the question as to which is cheaper seems to depend almost completely on what channels you want, and whether or not you can commit multiple services to cable.5) Customer Service – Satellite TV and cable both claim to have superior customer service, and both cite studies proving as much. In this case, there is really no way to determine whom is correct, but I tend to rely on word-of-mouth and personal experience to judge. In the end, satellite TV proved the better value for me. With the costs appearing roughly equal and movie programming about the same, bad experiences with cable in the past, and better sports programming on satellite, especially the inclusion of NFL Sunday Ticket, made it a relatively easy decision. Hopefully my experiences help you decide as well.

Direct TV first became available to consumers back in 1994 and were released by General Motors.

It was not that long ago that we were forced to watch whatever cable TV companies and networks decided to play. Not only did you not have control over what you were watching, you also had no control over the menu and other functions. One of the greatest things about Direct TV is that there are many useful features that give you complete control over your TV viewing experience.

One of the most obvious ways that you have control over your TV with Direct TV is the on-screen program guide which was designed to be very user-friendly. The Direct TV on-screen program guide is a table that you can bring up on your TV screen. Each cell of the table will have a different program and information regarding that program. With Direct TV you are able to read a quick plot description, making it easier to decide whether it is a program or movie that you really want to view or not before even changing the channel.

With Direct TV’s on-screen program guide you have the ability to scroll up and down at will to look at the different programs at any time of the day or night. The more you scroll to the right, the further in the future you are looking. If you have a digital video recorder you can use this time to set up your receiver to record a specific program. With a DVR you are even able to record one program while watching a totally different channel at the same time! This device is a must have for any one who has to share a TV with some one else. There is even an option which allows you to set your DVR to record an entire season of your favorite TV show.

One of the greatest and most helpful features of your Direct TV system is the parental control. With the parental control feature you are able restrict your house hold’s TV viewing in many different ways including the total time they have been watching TV, and also by MPAA ratings, specific programming and channels, and pay-per-view programming. The best part about the parental control feature is that you are able to get by all of these restrictions as long as you have the four digit personal identification number.

With Direct TV you have the most control over what you are buying. They offer their customers several base programming packages so that you are able to find the one that is most suitable for you and your family. You also have the option of adding on extra programming including pay-per-view, foreign language packages such as Spanish, seasonal sports subscriptions, high definition TV, as well as adult programming. With all of these different options it isn’t surprising that Direct TV is rated number one by American consumers. When it comes down to it, if you want to have the most options and control over your TV viewing experience then you should go with Direct TV.

I’m sure by now you have heard the name Direct TV a time or two. If you have ever searched online for information regarding the different satellite TV providers in your area then chances are high that you were bombarded with advertisements urging you to take advantage of their limited time offer. You can easily find tons of articles that include information regarding Direct TV’s service and equipment. You will be happy to know that J.D. Power and Associates gave Direct TV high rating for their advanced equipment and superb TV entertainment services.

Direct TV is known as being the number one satellite TV provider in the world, with more than fifteen million satisfied subscribers in the United States alone. Direct TV was first introduced to the public back in 1994 and is a subsidiary of New Corporations Fox Entertainment Group. They were actually the first direct broadcast satellite in the world and have managed to stay one step ahead of the competition with their combination of great customer service, programming options, and competitive rates. Direct TV has had such success that they have been able to expand their services from digital satellite TV to include XM radio, broadband satellite Internet, as well as high definition TV (HDTV).

One of Direct TV’s most popular offer is that you will receive free high end equipment and professional installation with the purchase of a subscription. When you compare satellite TV with Direct TV to other standard cable TV providers you will immediately see why people are constantly changing over from cable. You can compare price, service options, and equipment and you will be even more ready to call up a local Direct TV service provider.

Direct TV has a fleet of orbiting satellites which send out one hundred percent digital signals to homes all over America and Latin America. The programming signals are intercepted by the home-attached antennas and are then converted to either standard or high definition resolution for your viewing pleasure. Many of today’s technological advances have provided the most crystal clear picture and sound quality.

Not only does Direct TV offer their basic equipment for free (home attached compact dish antenna, fully integrated receiver, as well as a universal remote) and professional installation at no extra cost to you, but every new subscriber will also get a digital video recorder (DVR). This highly popular and useful device gives you the power to digitally record and store up to seventy hours of perfect programming. You simply use the provided remote control to set the DVR to record which ever shows you wish, even setting it to record an entire season of your favorite show. With Direct TV’s DVR you have the ability to record one show or movie while enjoying a different channel. This is ideal for anyone who has to share their TV with someone. Direct TV makes it easy for you to make the decision to switch over from your current TV entertainment provider to their satellite services, so why wait any longer?

For the longest time there was never any choice to make in TV viewing. You bought the best TV that you could afford and if you were luck you would get a clear picture and descent sound. Some people used to but those really big ugly antennas and hope that it would give a little extra help, but they were wrong. Most of the time you have to get up from your set about 3-4 times and at witch the antennae around.

When I was a kid I remember the channels we would get and let me tell you there was not much to choose from. Most of the channels that were offered none the less were horrible when it came to the picture and let’s not forget the sound. Now days cable has up its game by improving the programming but they were the only show in town and there customers really has no where else to go. In the mean while, the cable companies troubled along their customers got what they could get from them and pretty much left them to fend for themselves. Cable companies were able to do this for many years with out there customers even knowing that they were being taken for a ride.

One day some people got the brilliant idea to launch satellite into earth’s orbit and broadcast television programs; it was one of the brightest ideas of the century. This launched the era of the eight foot wide huge medal receivers and the satellite TV system that costs way out of every one’s budget. Only the very wealthy and the rich could afford them, most of them were too big to keep around and not only that but satellite was still in the being stages and was somewhat limited in its service and programming. This made it easy on cable to work its magic on the world. These days cable companies are not so lucky, satellite TV has rocked the nation and has taken over cable at a dramatic storm.

With in the last five years satellite television programming has past cable by an alarming rate, nearly half of all house holds are a satellite customer. The top satellite service provider offers more channels in virtually every area of programming. Direct TV and the Dish Network at the top satellite providers in the highly competitive business of satellite TV programming. They both offer more high-definition then any cable provider in the market place. Both Dish Network and Direct TV have the lowers percentage rate for system failure then any of the other competitors including cable providers. Standard TV and cable TV programming providers tend to have the highest percentage rating for system failure. So if you feel like your ready to make that change and be in the here and now instead of in the past, then you should join with a satellite programming company in your era. Now is the time to make that change and get what you deserve.

You are likely one of the millions of people who get advertisements from local TV entertainment providers in the mail. There are so many different companies offering multiple packages and services that it is easy to get confused. Start with the company that is the top rated satellite TV provider in the world, Direct TV. Direct has more than sixteen million satisfied customers in America alone.

With Direct TV you are receiving one hundred percent digital signaling from the fleet of orbiting satellites above the earth. Then it is processed through a home-based receiver where it can be converted to standard or high definition resolution for your viewing pleasure. Either of the two formats will offer you crystal clear pictures as well as Dolby Digital surround sound. If you want the top of the line visual and sound effects then you have to upgrade to high definition (HD). This format is comparable to a theater but in the comfort of your own home.

Direct TV is so successful because they have a winning combination of top rated customer service, massive programming packages, and at an affordable, competitive rate. Not to mention the top of the line equipment and technology you will receive with your subscription. The more you read about Direct TV the more evident it is that they are a superior TV service provider in many ways. Direct TV strives to keep their number one position, so they continue to offer their state of the art equipment and professional installation for free to any new subscribers.

Direct TV even took it one step further and are now offering their digital video recorder (DVR) which is a device that seriously changes the way you watch television. There once was a time when your busy life meant you had to miss your favorite TV shows or movies, unless you wanted to mess with a video cassette recorder and hope that no one changes the channel while you are recording. Now you can use the DVR to digitally record and store up to seventy hours of your favorite programs directly on to the hard drive of your receiver.

You simply use the universal remote that is included to record, pause, fast forward, rewind, and skip forward. You also have the ability to edit your programming by cutting out the commercials and by playing instant replays for your guests and family. You can also use your remote to pause and resume live programming at will.

You can choose from any of Direct TV’s amazing programming packages which are perfectly divided up with you in mind. There are packages that range from one hundred and fifty five channels all the way up to more than two hundred and fifty channels. These packages are divided up into the Total Choice package, the Total Choice Plus, and the Total Choice Premier.

Millions of people switched last year from cable TV to satellite TV programming. Statisticians and marketers are always anxious to learn why such a significant movement has occurred. In studying the market trends, several things became immediately apparent. These are issues that are important to customers and the move away from cable TV can be tied to customer dissatisfaction with the way cable TV companies handle the issues raised.

COST

If one compares the cost of a standard installation of cable TV with a like package under the satellite coverage you would find, using country-wide averages, that cable TV costs $40.00 monthly for 64 channels, while Dish Network costs $19.99 for 60 and DirecTV charges $42.00 for 115 channels. Cable TV charges an installation fee of $40 for one room and $10 for each additional room, while installation is free with both satellite providers. Clearly, satellite TV is the better choice based on price.

PROGRAMMING

Cable TV provides about half as many channels as those which are available with satellite TV, and the format with cable TV is analog. You must pay extra to receive digital programming. More high definition channels are provided through satellite TV and all broadcasting is done in digital format. Again, cable TV comes out second best in terms of its programming.

EQUIPMENT

Cable TV requires only a cable box to connect to your TV except for connections for a digital video recorder which cost extra. Cable TV boxes are normally free of charge. Satellite TV on the other hand, needs a satellite dish and a TV receiver, which both come with your new system. Dish Network doesn’t charge for a DVR recorder, but DirecTV charges $50 for the DVR recorder and $300 for an HDTV receiver. This category is probably a toss-up between cable TV and satellite TV, depending on which peripherals you need.

RELIABILITY

Independent studies rate cable TV outages at about 3% per year while satellite TVs average about 1% per year. Over the last five years, a subjective rating of customer satisfaction rates cable TV companies at ‘Good’ to ‘Poor’ and both satellite TV companies rate higher in overall satisfaction. Again, cable TV comes out lower than satellite TV’s.

On the basis of this simple four point rating scale, cable TV come out lower in every category except one, where it is a ‘maybe’. If the conditions in your local area are similar, you may want to consider going to the favorite satellite provider, as so many others are doing. Technology continues to advance, and so it seems that cable television is no longer the cutting edge. Where hardware will head in the future is anybody’s guess.

However, if you live where you can’t get satellite programming, or you don’t watch more than a few shows monthly and cable costs are less expensive. Or if you simply prefer the capability of watching everything in digital format, or if you want to record shows for later playback, then satellite TV is the wiser choice, with more programs for the money, better sound and picture quality and capability to record in digital format.

Every company claims to have the best product or service in their industry. When it comes to satellite TV only Direct TV can end up on top with their satisfying combination of the most popular TV programming, the latest technology, as well as top rated customer service to keep you happy. With Direct TV you are getting the best possible satellite service because every channel you receive is one hundred percent digital programming.

Direct TV went out of their way to make their services as customer friendly as possible. Every subscription includes the easiest to use software to help you manage your massive amount of channels. It may seem confusing at first but once you understand what is going on you will be able to get the maximum benefit out of your satellite TV service.

The two main factors that people look at when they are choosing a satellite TV service provider is the price and programming options. Direct TV offers their customers more programming options than any other TV service provider in the world. This is because Direct TV offers more than eight hundred different channels which are perfectly divided up in to several programming packages. There are so many channels to enjoy that you will never have to hear your family tell you that there is absolutely nothing to watch on TV.

Direct TV offers the biggest entry level package in the TV entertainment industry. Their Total Choice provides more than one hundred and fifty five channels to enjoy. For more options you can upgrade to Direct TV’s Total Choice Plus which includes more than one hundred and eighty different channels. For the most programming options you can go with the largest package offered, Total Choice Premier. This package includes more than two hundred and fifty channels with a variety of sports channels and popular movie packages such as Showtime, Cinemax, HBO, and Starz.

To make your programming packages even more customized you have the ability to add on optional channels such as the increasingly popular high definition TV (HDTV) channels that are offered through Direct TV. With HDTV format it is like you have a theater in your living room. The sound and picture quality is much more detailed and realistic. Direct TV offers twenty different HDTV channels which include a range of programming.

Direct TV also gives you the ability to choose exactly what it is that you want included in your programming package. They allow you to add on your favorite movie packages to the Total Choice or Total Choice Plus packages. You can also add on the Sports Pack which basically includes all of the same channels you would get when you upgrade to the Total Choice Premier from the Total Choice Plus package.

You can enjoy sports and movies in high definition, as well as other types of programming including documentaries, dramas, and other special events. Many of today’s major networks are offering programming in high definition when you subscribe to ABC HDTV, CBS HDTV, FOX HDTV, and NBC HDTV. Direct TV also offers adult programming and foreign language programming in high definition format.
